Alexei KOURAEV is a project
manager and scientific researcher at the Nansen International Environmental and
Remote Sensing Center (NIERSC), St. Petersburg, Russia since 1992. He is
involved in management of research teams working on various international
projects, as well as in studies of environmental (especially marine) pollution
and associated problems.
In 2000 he was awarded a NATO Advanced Science Fellowship through NATO/Norwegian
Research Council to do research at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing
Center, Bergen, Norway. Currently he is doing research of sea ice and sea level
changes using satellite data at the Observatoire Midi-Pyrenees, Toulouse, France
in the framework of the European Project AICSEX (Arctic Ice Cover Simulation
Experiment).
A. Kouraev's diploma in oceanography (1992) and Ph.D. in geography (1998) are
both from the Moscow State Lomonosov University.
His current interests are coastal research and management, satellite
oceanography and hydrology, management of water resources, modelling of water
dynamics and transport of pollutants, and Marine Geographic Information Systems.
