Leonid SHABAD is currently
working with WorlWide Fund for Nature Russia Marine Programme. His principal
responcibilities are:
● General fund raising for WWF-Russia Marine Program:
search for donors, project design, proposal writing
● Design and coordination of marine protected areas (MPA)
-related projects/activities, including tourism development
● Coordination, research and communication for marine
biodiversity conservation in Sakhain (offshore oil/gas impact).
Prior to WWF Russia, Leonid worked worked in the Moscow-based diving and travel
company. In 2000, he graduated from Monterey Institute of International Studies
(CA, USA) with MA in International Environmental Policy. Before that, he was a
vice chairman of the White Sea Socio-Ecological Center (regional NGO in the
Russian North)and worked as scientific researcher with Solovetsky State Museum
Reserve (Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea). There he took part in various
activities connected to the protection and monitoring of nature in the Solovki
archipelago, including a survey of deer and birds. He has a bachelor's degree in
biology from Moscow State University (1993).
