Mikhail Lebedev is Executive Secretary and Board Member of the Russian Pugwash Committee at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1999, and concurrently Head of Program for International Security, Cooperation and Regional Problems of the International Federation for Peace and Conciliation (IFPC, since 2002).

He is also member of the Russian Philosophical Society, member of the Editorial Board of the Mir i Soglasie (Peace and Conciliation) quarterly scientific and information magazine, and permanent member of the Continuing Scientific Seminar on History of the Atomic Project. In 1997-2007 Mikhail Lebedev was Chair of the Russian Student / Young Pugwash group and member of the International Student / Young Pugwash’s (ISYP) General Assembly.

He is author of articles on international security, disarmament, social responsibility of scientists and history of science. Mikhail is national contact person (Russia) of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs (1995 Nobel Peace Prize winner). He was participant of Pugwash meetings and conferences of the International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), PIR-Center for Political Studies, International Studies Association (ISA), visitor of the Winter Academy of NATO, and others events.

Mikhail’s professional interests are philosophy of science, theory and history of international relations, current problems of human security and non-proliferation regime, global problems of development, history of Soviet sciences and regional conflicts in former Soviet Republics, especially in Chechnya.
